Scoring tennis matches

Captain HQ live scoring is designed to help players and captains follow a match without needing to decode tennis scoring from scratch.

Points

A standard tennis game uses this point ladder: Love, 15, 30, 40, then game. At 40-40, called deuce, a player or team normally must win by two points.

After deuce, AD marks who is one point from winning the game. Some leagues use no-ad scoring, where the next point after deuce wins the game.

Games and sets

A set is made of games. In many league matches, a player or doubles team wins a set by reaching 6 games with at least a 2-game lead, such as 6-4.

Some formats use short sets, pro sets, match tiebreaks, or timed matches. Follow the format shown by your league or captain.

Tiebreaks

A tiebreak often settles a 6-6 set. Players count 1, 2, 3, and so on; the first side to 7 points, winning by 2, usually takes the set.

Some leagues use a 10-point match tiebreak instead of a full final set. If the app and official rule disagree, follow the league rule and correct the score afterward if needed.

Point entry

Tap the side that won the point. Captain HQ advances the tennis score for you, including deuce, advantage, games, sets, and tiebreak points.

If you tap the wrong side, fix it as soon as possible or tell your captain the correct final score.
